Hischier scores 42 seconds into OT, Devils beat Predators 3-2 after Jack Hughes leaves in 1st period

Nico Hischier scored 42 seconds into overtime to give the Devils a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night after New Jersey's Jack Hughes left the game in the first period and didn't return. Hischier's slap shot from just beyond the left faceoff circle beat Nashville's Justus Annunen high to the glove side for the winner. New Jersey's Jesper Bratt tied the game at 2 midway through the third.

Jordan Staal scores in final minute to cap late 3-goal rally by Hurricanes for 5-4 win over Mammoth

Jordan Staal's goal with 29.4 seconds left gave the Carolina Hurricanes three goals in the final two minutes for a 5-4 victory over the Utah Mammoth on Thursday night. The Hurricanes became the first NHL team in more than 30 years and third overall to rally from two goals down in the last two minutes to win in regulation. The others were the Dallas Stars against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 14, 1995, and the Montreal Maroons against the New York Rangers on March 15, 1932.

Nick Suzuki leads Canadiens in 7-3 home romp over struggling Avalanche

MONTREAL (AP) — Nick Suzuki scored power-play and short-handed goals and added an assist to help the Montreal Canadiens beat the struggling Colorado Avalanche 7-3 on Thursday night.

The NHL-leading Avalanche have lost six of eight to fall to 35-8-9.

Noah Dobson opened the scoring just 56 seconds into the game. Jake Evans and Kirby Dach scored in a 40-second span late in the second period. Dach had his first first goal and point since returning from a 31-game absence Jan. 20.

Alexandre Carrier and Juraj Slafkovsky scored in the third period, and Jakub Dobes made 26 saves to improved to 7-0-1 in his last eight starts.

Brock Nelson, Joel Kiviranta and Ross Colton scored for Colorado. Scott Wedgewood stopped 21 shots.

The Avalanche wore powder blue Quebec Nordiques jerseys in homage to the team’s former home of Quebec City.

Bruins dominate Flyers 6-3 behind Minten and Mittelstadt with a goal and two assists each

Fraser Minten and Casey Mittelstadt each had a goal and two assists and the Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Thursday night. Pavel Zacha, Viktor Arvidsson, Tanner Jeannot and Marat Khusnutdinov also scored for the Bruins, while Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves to win his seventh game in nine starts this month.

Raddysh, Gourde and Kucherov help surging Lightning beat Jets 4-1

Darren Raddysh and Yanni Gourde each had a goal and two assists to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Nikita Kucherov scored his 27th goal on an empty-netter and added his 55th assist. Dominic James also scored for Tampa Bay, which improved to 16-1-1 in its past 18 games.

Alex Tuch has 4th career hat trick in the Sabres' 4-1 victory over the Kings

Alex Tuch had his fourth career hat trick to push his season goals total to 22, leading the surging Buffalo Sabres to a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. Alex Lyon made a season-high 37 saves for his 10th consecutive victory to break the franchise record set by Gerry Desjardins in December 1976. Mattias Samuelsson also scored to help the Sabres win for the 20 time in 24 games.
